Shannon Lewis

Shannon started working with clay in 2016, fulfilling a decades long interest in pottery and desire to start making. With an analytical bent she is drawn to the science of clay and glazes, where there is a lifetime of exploring, learning and discovering waiting.

As a potter Shannon is influenced by landscape, focusing on simple forms and design and being led by the visual cues around her for colour and texture - from the coastlines, the night sky, the ocean, and the bush.

At Clay Cartel Shannon is aiming to create an environment where other potters can also explore the inspirations and influences they bring to their work with clay.

Daniel Mulligan

AKA Chef vs Clay. After working as a hatted chef in the fine dining industry for over 20 years (on the verge of burning out), Daniel took a risk to follow his passion for clay - swapping his chef’s whites for his clay apron.

Starting his clay journey in 2016, the obsession for clay gradually overtook the time spent in kitchen, eventually taking the chance to give the ceramicist life a go.

Daniel is inspired by the slow process of Japanese masters, producing functional pieces that feature earthy tones and fluid textures.

Not letting go of his chef roots, you can find Daniel, whipping up new glaze recipes at Clay Cartel.
